Review

In my opinion, this is a novel wholly deserving of the critical acclaim it has received.

Cloud Atlas encompasses many different genres during the course of the story and it is great credit to Mitchell that he carries off all of them.

I initially found the first story hard work to get into, but it is the bedrock for the rest of the book. There are effectively six stories within the book. Each story is written in a different style but the book does not lack continuity. Stories are left at suitably dramatic cliff hangers and i found myself literally racing through the book to get back to certain stories.

Everyone will have their own favourite part of the novel, my favourites were the Louisa Rey thriller and the Sci fi part involving Sonmi 451.

All in all, a thoroughly enjoyable book that has something for everyone.
