Review

This is a small book. 116 pages long in my edition.

it took me nearly two months to read.

That's not to say it is a bad book. Ilich puts forward an incredible argument about the simple destructiveness of schools and how we have been railroaded into them as a "good thing". That "good thing" cannot, has not, and never will be challenged. Although the book was written in the seventies it is still powerfully relevant today. Even if you disagree with the arguments Ilich puts forward, you cannot deny that what he says is accurate. He even predicts the rise of computerised social networks (Like Myspace, Facebook, Bookwormr) 35 years before they were invented.

The downside of the book is that Ilich is fiercely intelligent, more so than you. Or me. His writing is so dense that sometimes it would take me an entire day to get through and understand a single page of this book. And I'm not exactly stupid.

However, despite the time it took me to read the book, I'm glad I did. Ilich challenges where no one else would dare.
