Review

It's no wonder that Hemingway's The Old Man and the Sea is a classic. He artfully describes an old man's ordeal on the sea off the coast of Cuba as he fishes for marlin. This book is chockful of symbolism that tells quite a different story, and Hemingway uses Santiago to create the Hemingway hero.

Although most people don't like The Old Man and the Sea (because it is just about a man catching a fish), I completely disagree. You can only truly understand and appreciate life until you read this book and identify all of the symbols. On a literal level, the book is a quick read. On a symbolic level, the book is much more complicated. You can either read it quick and enjoy it or study it and gain further enjoyment.
