Review

Mind Over Murder is a psychological thriller that will keep you on the edge of your seat and your heart pounding as you turn the page.

This is the second book in the Jake Roberts murder, mystery, suspense novel series. Although I was glad that I read ‘After The Evil’ first, they really can be enjoyed separately. Once again Author Cary Allen Stone has tapped into the criminal mind of a killer with such precision that you will look at people, no matter what their status is in life differently.

Jake like a lot of police and military who put their life on the line every day, still suffers from post-traumatic stress from a shooting incident that put him into mandatory therapy. Jake like all the brave men and women in blue still go to work every day to fight crime. One of my favorite quotes from this book is “It amazes me how long we can bury, conceal, and ignore the things in life that have hurt us deeply. How that seething pain, without warning, returns in full force at inopportune times. We think of ourselves as great, majestic mountains, sturdy and strong, unconquerable, but even mountains erode into deserts over time. After a while, we begin to realize how puny we are in the universe, and how little we control in our lives. All we really have inside, is what we believe to be true––what we can live with.”

I invite you to join homicide detective Jake Roberts as he battles his feelings for the gorgeous Lori Powers who is in fact a past lover and serial killer who has come back to the US to stand trial, while he is embroiled in a mystery where his name is scrawled in blood at a murder scene and finds himself taunted by the killer. I quote: “Killing is entertaining for me, but you’re right, it’s already boring. What makes it exciting still, is killing someone you want dead, instead of a few by surprise. I will enjoy every second of killing you. If I die, I will rise again, and kill some more.”

The characters and dialog are so realistic your mind will see and experience the action as if you are watching it on the silver screen. Your body will tense as the plot is so unpredictable with detailed graphic violence that is for mature audiences.

I leave you with this quote from the book and wonder if you are reading this from Atlanta, GA? “Atlanta was on fire again. The difference was the boots of law enforcement pounded the ground instead of the boots of Sherman’s army. Police captains shouted orders, instead of military colonels. Command center trucks rumbled past, instead of cannons drawn behind horses. The fear among the population was the same. In such a beautiful city, with a gentle Southern attitude, two infamous serial killers, and a rogue cop, were on the loose. Lives could be taken at any second. The hunted would kill to defend itself, and elude capture. Men, women and children were in extreme danger, in spite of the show of force. Atlanta, the heart of the South, was in complete lockdown.”
